About Sacramento

Sacramento, the capital of the state of California, began its life as a Gold Rush city when thousands of prospectors descended upon Captain John Sutter’s settlement in hopes of striking the mother lode. Today, Sacramento is a city of gracious tree-lined streets and, famous for flowers that bloom all year, is known as the “Camellia Capital of the World."

Sacramento boasts a lively art, music and cultural scene where neighboring art galleries and venues host the Second Saturday Art Walk, Midtown Cocktail Week, and Sacramento Wine and Dine. Sacramento has a reputation as a center of Dixie Jazz, because of the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, held every Memorial Day weekend. Each year, thousands of jazz fans from all over the world visit for this entertaining weekend.

There are a many parks here and everybody has their favorite. William Land Park stretches for several city blocks and features two amusement parks for children, a small zoo, an amphitheater, and several bodies of water for endless outdoor activities. McKinley Park, which is more urban and only a few city blocks long, has some of the top-ranked basketball in town, tennis courts, a children’s playground, a swimming pool, and even a library. With the Sierra Nevada mountains on its doorstep, skiing and snowboarding is only a quick drive away!
