Who I Am
My name is Gunwoo, and I work at EA Korea in Seoul. I grew up in the seaport city of Busan, located in the Southern part of Korea. I am a huge sports fan and can still remember playing FIFA 98 with my friends, which has become a key part of my life since then. Working at EA was one of my dreams, however, with limited knowledge of the industry, I wasn't sure if I could reach it. In 2008, I was given the chance to interview at EA. This chance allowed me to start my career at EA as a Product Manager, and I was able to work on a project involving a sport I followed as I grew up, FIFA Online 3. I still play FIFA games at home and also watch soccer and baseball games on a regular basis.
What I Do
I’m a Product Manager for FIFA ONLINE 3 (FO3), a top free-to-play (F2P) game in Korea; the game is also currently being published in six Asian countries, including Korea. My job is to mainly focus on performance management of FO3 and its mobile sku, FO3M, including revenue & traffic KPI (key performance indicators) to meet our target, while working closely with partners on publishing activities. I’m happy to be involved in this business since this product is not only loved by local gamers, but also provides a very engaging game experience in the mobile and PC environment.
What is My Day?
Usually, I start my day with status check-ins of the product with my team, reviewing key metrics and finding anything new that may require further investigation. After that, I’ll start my regular routine: report latest performances, and managing and executing publishing activities. Currently, we are having a lot of meetings with our 3rd party publishers and agencies discussing upcoming marketing activities to ensure the exposure of new content. I’m so excited to reveal our actions and the content in the coming months!
Where Am I Going?
I started my career as a PR Manager where most of my tasks were related to package games. I then spent more than a year working for a PC Online game called NBA Street Online when I first joined EA. After that, I got a chance to work on mobile games in a dev studio as a Development Manager, working on feature phone games such as Heroes Lore, Panic Room, and smartphone games like Tetris Blitz and Bejeweled. Now I’m back as a Product Manager of a F2P game. Though I can't say for sure where my future at EA will be since the gaming industry changes on a rapid pace. I will be wherever I am needed, and it's clear that I'll work hard with others to bring new experiences with awesome games through innovate publishing.
