The People Of EA

Associate Development Manager, Firemonkeys Studios
Who I Am

I’ve been moving up and down the east coast of Australia for the past twelve years or so, but Melbourne has been my home for the past five years. I’m really happy where I’ve ended up; it is a fantastic place to live! There’s always fun things to do/eat/drink and it’s very culturally rich. Back in my younger years, my father encouraged me to get into games and I was immediately hooked! Because they have always been a part of my life, and it seemed like a natural progression to work on them. It started out with a Games Design degree in Brisbane, where I met a lot of interesting people and made lifelong friends. When I moved to Melbourne I started working in Quality Assurance (QA) at a local indie studio. It was lots of fun and extremely rewarding, and my career took off from there.

What I Do

I started at Firemonkeys in a Development QA role. I gained a great amount of experience and knowledge working with the team there. They are incredible people. Recently I have moved into an Associate Manager position on the same project Real Racing 3. It’s a mobile game that releases feature content updates every six weeks or so. As a DM, I work with the development leads to plan content and ensure that the scope of an update can be completed by our release date.

What is My Day Like?

A large part of my day is spent communicating with various teams. I get a lot of information thrown my way, so it’s important to sort it by priority and make sure the right people are informed. For example, with the development team we have daily ‘stand ups’ where we literally stand in a circle, while each person has a chance to talk about what they are working on. I schedule regular meetings with the project leads so we have an opportunity to discuss ongoing issues and opportunities. On top of that, I’m communicating with internal and external partners, such as Legal, Licensing, Advertising, Marketing, QA, etc. It’s a lot to take on and some days are quite intense!

Where Am I Going?

I’m currently very happy with my role and especially my team! I’m really excited to see what Real Racing has in store for players in the future and I look forward to bringing that to life. In my professional development I would like to continue to learn new skills and take on more responsibility.
