Who I Am
Hello, my name is Qijun. I was born and raised in Shanghai, China. Video games became a key part of my life in middle school when my dad bought me my first computer. I still remember the first time that I played Command & Conquer. That was so cool!
So I selected computer science as my major in university and dreamt of one day working for a game company. My first job was at Microsoft working on Xbox. After several years at Microsoft I made my way to EA.
What I Do
I am a test manager in EADP Commerce and Identity. My job is to ensure the quality of our commerce and identity platform. Many people believe that a tester’s job in a game company is to play games, but in my team, the story is different. We use automation to do testing, so my main job is coding.
One of the great things about my job is that I still have chance to play the latest EA games on the game console at work, because in some cases, manually going through player scenarios is necessary.
What is My Day Like?
Usually each day starts with some sync up meetings. Because my office is in Shanghai, we tend to have conference calls with US team members in the morning. After that I’ll write meeting notes and read some emails. Next I’ll start my major work: coding, testing, and finding bugs.
As a manager, besides coding work, I also need to talk to my direct reports to know if there’s any issue impeding their work or anything I can help with.
Where Am I Going?
Looking forward, many exciting games will be published in our commerce and identity platform, and I’ll continue to ensure its quality while and great user experience. For myself, I believe I will have great opportunities to lead exciting projects and deliver high quality service to players.
