AFC South Club Championship & Derwin James vs. The World

Derwin continues to steamroll the competition and we crown the AFC South Club Champs.

Madden Championship Series

Competitive Madden had a blast from the past this week. We just watched a Madden player dust off some old playbooks and run the  Speed Option in competitive play. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen that one. If you aren’t old enough to remember when Limp Bizkit was cool, you likely don’t remember a time where Speed Option was cool.

I know what you’re thinking, and you’re right, how was that band ever cool. You’re also probably thinking, “How old is this guy writing this thing?”. And that’s a fair question. I’m not going to answer that, but it’s fair.

Where was I? Oh right, Madden. This is about Madden. Let’s … let’s just move on. I’ll get off my soapbox. Just scroll down. Nothing to see here.

Tennessee Titans

SomeSerious vs. Chritobin

This one had shootout written all over it. That did not happen. The first half was mostly methodical rather than the high-octane approach that was anticipated. But that was only till the last three minutes of the first half.

Late in the second quarter, Chritobin got things moving on both sides of the ball, turning turnovers into points to go up 24-0.

SomeSerious got on the board in the third, but the route continued from that point forward. Let this match be a valuable lesson to you, Madden community. DO NOT go into an MCS match with a QB without Gunslinger. It just isn’t worth it.

Chritobin is your back-to-back Titans Club Champ.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jwolfeman vs. Drini

Let’s go over some quick numbers. Jwolfeman’s record, 21-15. Drini’s record, 122-3.

Just a slight discrepancy.

This was the second matchup of the game and there was quite a difference between these two competitors in terms of success. To his credit, Jwolfeman knew this. To stand a chance, he needed to show up with a unique gameplan to take on a two-time belt winner like Drini.

And that he did. Jwolfeman came in with the Speed Option. Ran some Pistol Gun and Split Flex. He came in equipped with a mixed bag of plays from Madden past, focusing strictly on ground game. Drini hadn’t seen anything like this before, mostly because it’s been years since anyone has seen this collection of plays used in competition.

To his credit, his unorthodox game plan definitely threw Drini a curveball. But Drini was just too skilled to not come up with stops.

Drini is now a four-time Club Champion, back-to-back with the Jags.

Indianapolis Colts

Spoto vs. Lil Man

There’s been some big matchups in the Club Championship tournament so far. But this was a rare one that featured not one, but two former champs of this Club. Spoto was the Colts Champ in Madden NFL 19, Lil Man was the reigning Colts Champ.

Not only that, but these two are well-known for being epic trash talkers.

Things got started fast for Spoto as his defense gave him an early lead. He had two pick-sixes and pretty much owned the first half.

But Lil Man is no slouch and keyed in on Spoto’s defense and made a game out of it in the second half. Those early turnovers were just too much to overcome though, and Spoto hung on and reclaimed his spot as Colts Champ.

Houston Texans

Wesley vs. Jgill

There was buzz around the community about this young player Jgill and the massive amount of talent he has. Unfortunately, Wesley is one of the most explosive offensive minds in all of MCS.

On this day, Welsey was too much. Not only did he display his signature offensive prowess, but he showed how you put a game away. He built a substantial lead and put together a LONG drive that just didn’t allow Jgill to come back.

Jgill will be back. He has too much talent to not bounce back. But in the meantime, this was “How to put a game away 101” by Wesley.

Derwin James vs. The World

Trevon Diggs is not only a quality DB for the Dallas Cowboys, but he’s an experienced Madden player. Growing up, his favorite team was the Cowboys. He also had the luck to be drafted by his favorite team.

So it’s only fitting that when Trevon faced Derwin that he’d play as … the Eagles?

Let’s just move right past this one. Maybe it was part of his plan. To avoid Derwin blowing out the virtual version of the Cowboys and instead led the Eagles to slaughter. That has to be it.

Anyway, watch the video. Spoiler, Derwin wins by a lot.
