The Derwin Bowl

Derwin James took on four challengers in the epic season finale event.

Madden Championship Series

It’s the Derwin Bowl! As a big finale to a great season, we set up a marathon event for the best Madden 21 player in the NFL. Los Angeles Chargers Pro Bowl safety Derwin James had to go through a set of four matchups, ranging from warmups to impossible challenges.

Let’s break down how Derwin fared against the gauntlet.

Game 1

Heisman Winner tries to hustle Derwin

Recent Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith made a major impact in college and is looking to continue his success at the next level. He was clearly hoping that the Derwin Bowl would be an explosive start to his NFL career.

But it all started with LIES!

First, he said he doesn’t play Madden 21. It was clear that this was a ruse early on though, as he was WAY more skilled than most of Derwin’s opponents this season.

Second, Smith played as the Miami Dolphins. To be fair, he said he, “Didn’t choose his team.” But it’s worth pointing out that the Dolphins have the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Smith already deceived us about his Madden 21 skills. So maybe he was calling his Draft shot?

Either way, it was an exciting game and Smith pushed Derwin to the final seconds.

Game 2

Lee Brice delivered a good time … without the skills

Country music superstar Lee Brice openly admitted that Madden 21 isn’t his game. Unlike Smith in Game 1 though, this was clearly true.

The game wasn’t close, but Brice picked up a fair amount and Derwin was pretty locked in after the Game 1 scare.

Game 2 had some great conversations though. Brice talked about his time playing for the Clemson Tigers and other excellent stories. There’s only one question left unanswered:Why was he sitting that close to a TV that big?

Game 3

TDBarrett gives Derwin MCS-level competition

Throughout the entire season of Derwin James vs. The World, there was one question that consistently came up. “Could Derwin beat an MCS competitor?” So we decided to put Derwin’s skills to the test for the season finale!

Superbly-skilled Madden 21 player, New England Patriots Club runner-up, and YouTube superstar TDBarrett joined us to give Derwin his biggest test yet.

It was refreshing. For the first time this season, Derwin faced somebody that truly understands Madden 21. They chatted about recent plays, hot routes, or things they saw in coverage.

The game itself was insanely close, coming down to the final plays. Definitely worth the watch. But Derwin’s toughest challenge was still ahead.

Game 4

Derwin’s dominance runs into Jwall

Since we were putting Derwin’s stick skills to the test, it was set that Game 4 of the Derwin Bowl would provide the ultimate challenge. Jwall was coming off a huge victory, winning the Madden 21 Club Championship. He is also on a massive hot streak, having himself one of the better MCS seasons of recent memory.

As you may know, Derwin is undefeated in head-to-head this season. He narrowly escaped with Ws against DeVonta Smith and TDBarrett, so how did he fare against the current king of competitive Madden 21? Well … not great.

Jwall absolutely dominated this game from start to finish. Derwin was a great sport though, taking it as a learning experience as Jwall would explain why something didn’t work in the coverage Derwin selected.

So perhaps it’s fitting that Derwin’s only loss of the entire season (17-1) came against the Madden NFL 21 Club Champion.
