THE FIRST F1® 24 DRIVER RATINGS UPDATE

The first post-launch Driver Ratings update sees improvements to Oscar and Nico and drops for Max and Fernando

EA SPORTS™

As the drivers and teams head off on their well-earned summer breaks, it’s time to take a look back at the last few races, analyse individual performances, and update Driver Ratings in F1® 24.

Ratings are given to each of the drivers at the start of the season based on their historical on-track performance. At set times of the year, the team at EA SPORTS crunch the numbers and consult with experts Anthony Davidson and Alex Jacques, to dynamically change the ratings, keeping the game closely aligned with how the year is progressing.

What are the Driver Ratings categories?

There are multiple factors that make up each driver’s overall rating. These are broken down as follows:

  • Experience (EXP): More races, more points, with a greater weighting to the number of races they’ve had in F1 and the finishing positions in those races.
  • Racecraft (RAC): Racecraft denotes the driver's ability to work their way through the pack, with considerations given based on their ability to finish the race higher than where they started.
  • Awareness (AWA): Awareness rewards drivers who avoid the stewards' room. Penalty severity has a greater impact on how Awareness is adjusted.

  • Pace (PAC): Pace rewards the drivers who get closest to the fastest Race and Qualifying lap times as well as the difference to their teammates.

  • Overall Rating (RTG): A combination of all driver stats that lays out each driver's ability within F1® 24, with Pace having a greater weighting.

The ratings have an impact on how AI drivers perform in various modes. If you’ve already got a Career save on the go, you can choose whether or not to apply these changes by heading to your in-game mail.

July Update - Miami to Great Britain

With F1® 24’s launch ratings relevant until the Chinese Grand Prix, this update incorporates results from Miami through until the British Grand Prix - seven races in total.

By the time the chequered flag was waved at Silverstone, we’d already had six different winners in 2024 - one short of the previous two seasons combined. Whilst Verstappen has a commanding lead at the top of the Driver standings, the Constructor’s title race is heating up nicely.

You can check out the full list of ratings changes here, but below are some of the biggest movers in this first Driver Ratings update:

Oscar Piastri - Aussie On The Up

The man from down under has been in fine form in 2024, with a string of consistent results, thanks in no small part to his cool, calm demeanour behind the wheel. Only finishing outside of the points once in 2024, this seven-race stint from Miami and Britain saw him rack up a pair of podium finishes and 86 points.

Despite this update not including his maiden win in Hungary, he ties with Hulkenberg for the biggest individual stat rise, with Racecraft up three to 88, improving his Overall rating to 85.

Verstappen and Magnussen - Costly Penalties

Max’s title defence hasn’t been as smooth sailing as he may have wanted. It was always going to be difficult to match the lofty heights of his 19 wins in 2023, but he should still be happy with seven wins so far in 2024.

On-track, he was hit with a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision with Lando Norris in Austria. Similarly in Miami, Kevin Magnussen - who racked up over a minute in time penalties alone - collided with Logan Sargeant, ending the driver’s home race.

These penalties have resulted in Awareness drops of four and three respectively, with Max’s Overall rating dropping to 95 - still five points ahead of the next best drivers in second.

Perez and Alonso - Overall Impact

Two experienced drivers who haven’t had it their way so far in 2024, Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez, have both been impacted by Overall ratings drops.

Fernando - who’s topsy turvy season has seen him finish as low as 19th but as high as 5th - racked up a penalty for colliding with Zhou in Austria. Whereas Segio’s inconsistencies in qualifying, especially when compared to his teammate, have often put him on the back foot for race starts.

Both drivers have had Racecraft and Pace drops but their Overall ratings have been hit the hardest, dropping two points each to 90 for Fernando and 85 for Sergio.

Nico Hulkenberg - The Hulk Continues

It’s hard to imagine less than two years ago Nico didn’t have a permanent seat in Formula 1, making a name for himself as the ultimate super-sub at Aston Martin. Since returning full-time to the sport last year, Hulkenberg’s consistency has been admirable with a string of impressive results in both Qualifying and all-important Races in 2024.

Perhaps galvanised by his confirmed seat racing for Kick Sauber in 2025 and beyond, his personal points tally is already double what Haas achieved as a team all season in 2023.

Alongside Piastri, his Racecraft increase of three represents the biggest individual stat change. That, paired with his Pace increase of one, has seen his Overall rating hit 83, on par with Esteban Ocon and Daniel Ricciardo.

What’s next for 2024?

There are plenty of races left in the 2024 season. Will we see some surprise wins from other drivers? Perhaps a change in where the Constructor or even Driver titles end up?
