Maker Program FAQ
General Information
Who are Makers and what is The Sims Maker Program?
Makers are creators who specialize in crafting and designing 3D game assets, also known as custom content (CC), for The Sims. The Sims Maker Program is an official initiative that lets Makers publish their content directly to the in-game store on all platforms, including consoles.
With support from The Sims Team, Makers can publish their creations, share them with the community, and earn from their work.
All Maker Packs are officially endorsed by The Sims so players can trust that the content is verified as safe (no viruses or malware), compatible with base game updates, and easy to install.
How is this different from The Sims Creator Program or the EA Creator Network?
The EA Creator Network supports Creators and Influencers by offering early access and helpful resources so they can grow their communities while covering EA games. The Sims Creator Program supports this by upholding the values, perks and benefits specifically for The Sims Creators.
The Sims Maker Program, however, is designed for specialists who want to create, share, and earn revenue from their custom content using official tools and resources supported by The Sims Team.
I’m already a member of the The Sims Creator Program, but not of The Sims Maker Program. How can I request to join The Sims Maker Program?
The Sims Creator Program and The Sims Maker Program are different, but you’re welcome to be a part of both. If you’re already in The Sims Creator Program and want to become a Maker, you can submit a request to join using the link. We also welcome new or aspiring Makers to apply to The Sims Creator Program and can find more details at this link.
Who can join The Sims Maker Program?
Aspiring Makers can apply if they meet the following requirements:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Not reside in an EA-embargoed region.
- Be proficient in English (communication will be in English)
- Have an EA account in good standing with EA’s User Agreement
- Successfully complete a Technical Evaluation by submitting two assets for review.
How is Maker content different from custom content available on The Sims 4?
All Maker content is packaged using official tools developed and supported by The Sims Team. Once reviewed and approved, the content will be published directly to the in-game store.
Since Makers are using official tools, their content will stay updated with the latest Base Game updates, as they roll out.
How is Maker content purchased?
Maker content will be purchased on the in-game storefront using our virtual currency, Moola. Moola bundles will be available in various sizes to fit the needs of our players.
What do I get if I join The Sims Maker Program?
When Makers are accepted to the program, they will receive:
- Access to official tools, including EA’s proprietary software, to design and publish content that will be compatible with the game.
- Support during game updates, ensuring Maker content stays compatible.
- Dedicated support from The Sims Community Management team.
- A chance to reach more players, with content available on PC, Mac, and Console.
- The ability to earn revenue from content sold directly to all players in the in-game store.
Can Makers participate in the program if they offer custom content elsewhere?
Yes! Makers are free to offer custom content on other platforms. However, content available on other platforms will not be eligible for sale through The Sims Maker Program.
All rules and regulations around custom content and mods published outside of The Sims Maker Program can be found here.
Will custom content still exist outside of The Sims Maker Program?
Yes. The Sims Maker Program does not replace the existing custom content community or change The Sims Team’s existing policies about creating or distributing custom content or mods on other platforms.
Do aspiring Makers need to be an official business, or be part of a business entity, to join The Sims Maker Program?
No. Makers can participate as either an individual or a business.
All aspiring Makers—regardless of their business status—must provide certain personal information in The Sims Portal for verification purposes. This is required to comply with identity verification, payment and tax regulations.
Once approved, a Maker account is tied to the personal information submitted at the time of approval. If a Maker transfers ownership of their business, they will be required to update The Sims Team with their new information.
Does The Sims Maker Program allow collaboration between Makers?
Yes! Makers are welcome to collaborate. However, Makers will need to make their own agreements on content creation and revenue sharing as The Sims Team will not mediate or manage any collaboration agreements.
The Sims Portal only supports submissions from a single Maker account, so any collaborative projects must be submitted under one account. It’s up to Makers to manage ownership, attribution, and any financial arrangements outside of the platform.
Will there be dedicated support as a Maker?
Yes! Makers can contact their The Sims Community Manager for support. Makers will have tools to reach out to their point of contact from within The Sims Portal.
How long are Makers expected to support their content?
Makers are expected to support their content as long as it is available for purchase in the in-game store.
What happens if Makers want to leave the program?
Makers may leave the program at any time. Exclusive licenses and NDA agreements remain in effect after leaving The Sims Maker Program.
